NORTH

Grand Gaube

This small beach is situated directly at the beautiful lagoon and you can enjoy the spectacular outlook on the northern islands of Mauritius, like Coin de Mire, l’île Plate, l’île Ronde and l’île au Serpent. The beach is located in between 2 hotels, the ‘Lux* Grand Gaube’ and ‘Paul et Virginie’. Following the cooperation of the hotel managers and the government, the beach was enlarged with parking lots and other conveniences, like a comfortable and shady boardwalk. Grand Gaube is famous for its spectacular and colorful regattas.

La Cuvette

La Cuvette
La Cuvette is a small, popular beach of which pictures for postcards could have been taken and it is located after the popular beach Grand Baie. The beach consists of a small bay and many locals like to go there as well. The water is so clean and you can even see clearly the sea ground from the first few meters. La Cuvette is a secret advice, because not too many tourists come to the idea of going there to take their sunbath.
Parking lots, sanitary installations and a good lighting make the beach an absolute must.

Trou aux Biches

Trou aux Biches
Trou aux Biches has a long sandy beach. The blue ocean shines right in front of you, which is perfect for snorkeling and water activities. Besides the sand you can see an array of palm trees and a public green space that provides you with some shade. You can find the beach quite easily from the coastal road, where snacks and drinks are also available. Sanitary installations are present.
This beach is considered one of the most popular beaches in the north.
At night, there is no lighting on the beach.

Mont Choisy

Mont Choisy offers a long, busy beach. Runners like to do their laps there, some water activities are being offered and locals like to camp and barbecue there. The Ocean is quiet and clear. It is also a popular meeting place for teenagers. Craftspeople, local food, sanitary installations… everything you need for a perfect day at the beach is provided. At night the beach is lighted. That’s when the Mauritians usually start to play their guitar and make you feel like you are in a different world. And you will at last be thrilled by the island.

Cap Malheureux

The beach of Cap Malheureux is worth a visit. There you will find the small chapel with the red roof, one of the most beautiful of the island. The beach is located on the north coast of Mauritius and offers a clear view of the small offshore islands Ile Plate, Ile Ronde and Coin de Mire. It is considered an oasis of quietness and provides gorgeous photo scenery. The name Cap Malheureux (Unfortunate-Cap) came up after the Great Britain’s arrived quietly on land and banished the french from the island, on Sept. 2nd in 1810. The beach is less known, as there are big, black lava stones sticking out of the water. Nevertheless, there can be found some nice little bays alongside the coastline, where you can enjoy the clear water of the lagoon. Swimming shoes are recommended though. There you can be provided with Snacks and sanitary installations.

Grand Baie

When translated, Grand Baie means: Big Bay.
Get enchanted by the prettiest blue tones and see how the colors turn from a light turquoise blue into a strong and even dark navy blue in the sunlight.
All around the bay, Grand Baie has developed to become the center of tourism in Mauritius. The big bay is with its turquoise water a treat for everyone’s eyes.
This public beach is not really appropriate for swimming, because the bay is covered with fleet of boats, which anchor quietly in the bay all day long.
But you should definitely not miss the view of the probably prettiest bay in Mauritius. You will find many snack stalls which offer local snacks, along with animated boardwalk that’s coming from the restaurants and the street lights at night.

Pereybere

Grand Baie is only 5 minutes away from a feisty small beach in the middle of Pereybere, which is very popular amongst tourists and locals.
You can experience a typical island family life on the weekends, on national holidays and during school vacation.
The white beach is an invitation for everyone. Here you have a nice view on the small bay with the turquoise water, where usually catamarans pass by.
The flat water is also very suitable for little children and they can build great sand castles on the sandy beach.
The surrounded restaurants and bars are provided for your comfort and entertainment. Kebab is especially recommended and you can buy it at the snacks stalls. There are also sanitary installations and lighting at night.

Pointe aux Canonniers

The beaches of Pointe aux Canonniers which are closed to an almost 6 km long peninsular, have a sandy beach and are divided at some parts from lava rocks. That is why you can find so many small and hidden bays which are very convenient for people that are looking for quietness. Besides, the water is perfect for swimming and snorkeling.
The coast is mainly developped by a few hotels, vacation and private houses, so you should take advantages of those vacation houses and enjoy the beach. You can easily reach the Mont Choisy beach from those of Pointe aux Canonniers, barefoot. Grand Baie is around 4 km away, which is no problem with the bus.

The beach of Pointe aux Piments is long and cuts along the Baie aux Tortues to Trou aux Biches. The long sandy beach keeps being interrupted from rocky sections and it thus offers scattered and romantic bays. The beach has got a considerable length, but is very slim at some parts.
The Highlight of Pointe aux Piments is the coral reef, with its ideal conditions to snorkel and dive. Baie aux Tortues and the adjoining coast were pronounced the first Sea-National-Park due to their variety of species.
On the beach of Pointe aux Piments several luxury hotels, apartment complexes and vacation houses have settled down. There you find culinary offers and you get in touch with locals fast. The hotels are worth going for swimming and snorkeling.

EAST

Trou d’Eau Douce

When you find yourself at the small village on the east coast, boat trips to islands nearby are provided. This also includes the famous and postcard related island, Ile aux Cerfs. Security will be provided through regular patrols. You can swim all alongside the beach, where you find the small and not too deep bays.

Roches Noires

The Roches Noires’ beach is especially famous for its breathtaking scenery due to the black lava rocks and the dark rough sea, whose small waves break on the near coral reef. It is windy throughout the whole year, which especially ensures a perfect refreshment during the very hot summer months. You can not bath there, but you can tip your feet in the refreshing water. You can also perfectly look for shells, here and there you will find beautiful rare specimens. All around Roches Noires you see vacation accommodations, which are situated directly on the beach. The white sandy beaches with a turquoise blue lagoon are protected by the upstream coral reef.

Poste Lafayette is a preferred bathing village, especially during the warmer months, because of the fresh, prevalent wind which is present during almost the whole year. The Poste Lafayette shore is lined with casuarina trees, that bow in winter due to the heavy wind. This offers a unique view. The beach of Poste Lafayette is one of the prettiest with a adjoining turquoise lagoon and flat water, which is also ideal for children to bath. Surprisingly, there are not so many guests in this region – only a few spectators who share the beauty and quietness of this village.

SOUTH

Le Morne

Le Morne
The beach section of Le Morne is situated in between two luxury hotels. It is very pleasant to swim in the spectacular lagoon.The edge of the gigantic mountain Le Morne offers a unique view. A little bit further, behind the hotels there is a small beach, which is a popular meeting spot for kite-surfer. It is not recommended to swim there but you can for free experience a great view when kite-surfer surf all over the lagoon.
Kite-classes are provided at place.

Gris Gris

Gris Gris
Gris Gris is located on the most southern point of the island. This beach is worth the drive, just because of the spectacular view between cliffs and a small lagoon.
But there are high flood waves, breaker and a wild sea. Gris Gris is an observation point for picture and camera recordings, without any comfort except for one kiosk.

Blue Bay

In the southwest of the island, not far from the airport, you find the beautiful beach Blue Bay. Just like the name says, at Blue Bay we have a turquoise ocean and almost transparent, because you can almost see anything on the sea ground.
After a gentle entrance, you can profit from this beautiful clear blue water. A tour on the Glass bottom boat is definitely recommended.
Blue Bay borders on the Marine Park, where the greatest underwater world is being provided. Benches and tables to picnic as well as restaurants, small stalls and coconut seller are taking care of your comfort. Toilets are nearby.

Mahebourg

Mahebourg
Here you run into a long sea front with a very big lagoon, where famous regattas meet for a race, several times a year. You can not swim there but there is a long boardwalk with view over the ocean and the nearby islands, like the L’îlot privé de Mouchoir Rouge and L’île aux Aigrettes, a natural reserve which can be visited. The sea front can be reached by walking across the little town Mahébourg. Lighting is provided at night and a few very good restaurants that serve local specialties.

Riambel

Riambel is a dream beach located in the south. At weekends or public holidays this beach is one of the most popular spot for locals. On any other day the beach is almost desert and you can spend a wonderful day in quietness while listening to the pleasant sound of the sea.

Unfortunately, the ocean is a little rough over there and strong waves are present all year.
So, it is not the right waters for beginners. In case you do not want to miss out the swimming experience, you can lay perfectly in the water of the shore and enjoy the warm sea and the shining sun.
Nevertheless, the beach is situated in an amazing bay and invites you literally to go for walks. It is very impressive that the whole coastal region is throughout covered with green mountains when you look to the north.
Sanitary installations, small snack stalls with Mauritian food and street lights are provided.

Pointe d’Esny

Pointe d'Esny
Located in the south-east of the island, it’s one of the nicest beaches on the whole island. It is a kilometer long, with white sandy beach that sparkles in the warm sun and enchants you with its turquoise lagoon. Alongside the beach are mainly private houses and vacation houses. Nevertheless, there are a few hidden transits which help you to reach this beautiful beach. But the beach does not provide you with any shade or snack stalls. That is why we recommend to bring a sun umbrella as well as food. The clear water of the lagoon is ideal to swim and snorkel. Swimming and plashing around is also great for kids in this nice lagoon. During the winter months June to August, kite-surfer will have perfect weather conditions there.

WEST

Flic en Flac

Flic en Flac
The public beach of Flic en Flac is a few kilometer long and decorated with filao trees. It is the main beach of the west coast and is visited regularly by locals. With the bus you can reach it from every direction. Provided are parking lots and other basic conveniences, like the presence of the coastal police.
Pleasant swimming, but watch out for the waves and at some places you might need some swimming shoes.
The main attractions of the beach are the several restaurants, which are located at the seafront and offer diverse dishes.

Tamarin

Tamarin
One of the most popular places for surfer from all over the world is the Tamarin bay and many residents of the Tamarin region and the Black river region like to go there as well. It is located near an inlet and can be crossed at low tight, then you get to another beach with private bungalows. The bay is also famous for its boat trips, where you can meet and watch dolphins. The beach is equipped with toilets, a big kiosk, public benches and parking possibilities, which are big advantages for tourists. The security is given with regular patrols, but the beach is not lighted at night. Swimming is very pleasant and the underground consists of sand and a few stones. The ocean can often be changeable, with big waves and strong wind which come up to the beach. The Tamarin Hotel in front of the beach offers a diverse choice of dishes and drinks.

La Preneuse

La Preneuse
This little beach on the edge of the Black River Region is located alongside a very old and ruined lime oven. The beach offers a white sand and swimming is very pleasant. Close to the beach you find the Martello Tower, it is a construction of the colonial era and is all renovated today. Guidance for the tower is offered.
